The history of this temple dates back to 1893. Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai, a well-known sweet maker (halwai) in Pune, and his wife Lakshmibai lost their only son during a plague epidemic. Deeply saddened, they were advised by their spiritual guru to worship Lord Ganesha for peace and strength.

With deep devotion, Dagdusheth Halwai installed a Ganpati idol in his home and began daily worship. Over time, the fame of this Ganpati spread, and many people started visiting for darshan. Later, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak encouraged public celebration of Ganesh Utsav, and Dagdusheth Ganpati became one of the most prominent public Ganpati mandals in Pune.
